As part of eOne’s theatrical campaign we worked on a set of 3D DOOH Deep screens focused on Themberchaud, the dragon featured in the films. Based off of a screen made for Japan by VFX studio Blunt Action, we created our versions for three placements across the UK.

The change in format required everything to be rebuilt and textured in C4D and then comped together in After Effects. Due to tight turn around times the main scene was created in two separate files. One featuring the dragon, fully textured and lit in Octane. The environments were then built using the Physical renderer with a flat textured dragon matching the angle and placement to simulate the physics.

This meant we only needed one hero render of Themberchaud to use across all three formats, and any updates to copy or enviroment layout could be handled independently.

As we were building along side the Japanese hero asset, we needed to create dummy versions of our scene while waiting for final assets. These were made using rotoscoped footage of the dragon from the feature, that had then been warped and distorted to create some faux depth in our test renders.
